Inspiration

After months and months of artist's block, something finally helped reignite my creativity: Tom McRae. His dark lyrics and unique sound are a great match with the weird and dark pieces I usually create. The pieces seen here were created shortly after my first Tom show in New York City on September 26, 2004. I listened to both of Tom's albums and various live shows for two weeks while working on the images.

Three copies of the completed book were made: one for myself, one for a friend, and a third for Tom. I have no plans to create any more copies of the book, but 8x10 prints are available. Please contact me if you are interested.

The Title

Non vacui sumus is Latin meaning, "we are not empty." Thanks to Greg for helping me find a translation. The original title was to be "there is no vacuum," referencing something Tom once said about feeling like he worked in a vacuum. But I didn't like the translation. That's kind of all there was to the change.

Additional thanks and credits

Much love and thanks to Saffron, without whom I wouldn't have discovered Tom. You rock!

Thanks to everyone who critiqued the art-in-process. You were all infinitely helpful!

Most of all, thanks to Tom. Just keep on doing what you do for as long as it is meant to last.
